OUR ORCHESTRA

Our orchestra has members all across Gippsland, a collaboration of musicians strengthening arts and culture in our region

Introducing Our Musical Director David Williams OAM

David graduated from Melbourne University Institute of Education with a Bachelor of Education in Music Pedagogy and later completed a Master of Arts in Performance on double bass at Monash University. David spent most of his performing career in the area of jazz where he performed with some of Australia’s finest band leaders.  He played in bands that accompanied Debra Byrne, Rhonda Burchmore, Dame Kiri Te Kanewa and Peter Allan and Motown legend Gil Askey. He has also played with the State Orchestra of Victoria and for the past three years has played with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra as part of their education week program.

David played and recorded extensively with the Cotton Club Orchestra and as a sessional bassist for recordings by contemporary Australian composer Felix Werder and for television and radio jingles and the feature film “Romper Stomper”. He has extensive experience in touring, having toured throughout Europe including concerts in Italy, Germany, Singapore, Belgium and Austria. He studied conducting with Peter Clinch, Barry Bignall, John Hopkins AM OBE and Graham Abbott as part of the Symphony Australia Conductor Development Program.

David’s musical direction includes Oliver! Fiddler on the Roof, Wizard of Oz, The Mikado, My Fair Lady, Singing In The Rain, Oklahoma!, Anything Goes, Annie,  Cats, Carmen, Seussical the Musical and Les Miserables, Beauty and the Beast and Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.
